Project License Holder/Scientist In Vivo


On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting a Project License holder for their site based near Edinburgh. The successful candidate will report to the scientist supervisor and provide scientific and regulatory oversight for all in vivo assays or tests required to characterize product or material safety. The job holder will be responsible for the regulatory (Home Office) aspects of the in vivo laboratory and ensuring it runs smoothly in compliance with GMP, GLP and Home Office regulations.


Basic Requirements:

  • BSc in a scientific discipline with 8 or more years of relevant experience
  • Minimum of 8 years working in a rodent laboratory, with at least 5 years as a personal license holder
  • Prefer a minimum of 3 years as a project License holder with rodent assays
  • Prefer at least 5 years experience with adventitious agent testing assays
  • Champion of Animal Welfare in line with Home Office recommendations
  • Knowledge and understanding of GLP and GMP regulations
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and leadership capabilities
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills that have been demonstrated through presentations/seminars, oversight of projects, implementation of new services


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall implementation of the programme of work and ensuring that regulated procedures are carried out strictly in accordance with the project license
  • Direct and manage the work of all of the personal licensees carrying out regulated procedures under the authority of the project license
  • Ensure personal licensees apply regulated procedures only as specified in the relevant protocol and in accordance with the project license
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with the 3 Rs
  • Seek and follow advise from the NVS, NACWO and NIO on the health, welfare, and use of animals and on implementation of the 3 Rs
  • Ensure that regulated procedures are not carried out if a satisfactory alternative to the use of protected animals is available
  • Ensure that regulated procedures carried out are those which use the minimum number of animals, cause the least pain or distress, and are the most likelyto provide satisfactory results
  • Actively maintain a clean, tidy, and safe work environment
  • May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
